If you follow the Facebook page you will have seen this picture of some of my favourite styles from last year. I had a lot of fun with my hair but I didn’t really push the limits of my styling capabalitites and because I didn’t do many protective styles, I wasn’t able to retain as much length as I did in 2014.
This year I’ve decided to try something different. I will wear protective styles for 5 days during every week. The styles will be low manipulation, meaning they will be easy to do without the chance of much breakage. I’ve decided that in order to do this challenge succesfully I have to be accountable to someone. This is where you come in.
Every Monday I will share with you a pictorial of my style for the week. I chose to start with some fairly simple, milkmaid style, giant flat twists. Here’s how I did the style :-
Step 1: Start with stretched hair. I washed and conditioned my hair on Friday, sealing it with Mafura butter and flaxseed gel. I then plaited some medium sized flat twists. I unravelled the twists after applying my oil mixture to my hands to prevent frizz. I parted the twists to create body and picked the bottom with an afro comb to get rid of lines.
Step 2: I divided my hair into two parts, one bigger than the other, and loosely flat twisted the ends of the hair inwards to create a crown like appearance. I then pinned the ends for the illusion of a seamless semi circle.
It took me less than 10 minutes to create this look and I love the texture created by the twist out. Next week I will share how I’ll wear the style for the next 5 days.
I’ll need your help picking styles so if you have any that you think I should try please share below or on our Facebook page or Twitter @ZedHairDotCom
