Weekly Challenge Friday – Retro Flat Twist ‘n’ Curl

I got home from work and asked my neighbour’s niece to help me make the back parting straight. I admire those Naturals who can do such things themselves, but I ain’t one of those sisters. I very lightly spritzed and sealed with shea. I made two strand twists with the back so it would be sectioned in advance. Then I created diagonal sections and flat twisted the top. I put on a shower cap and made supper and did other chores around the house. Before sleeping I removed the shower cap and bantu knotted the ends of the twists. I debated whether to flat twist the back in advance, but decided I wanted the end of the flat twist curled, so I did the back and slept. I wore a satin scarf after my morning bath and drove to work.

Often, my flat twists don’t dry so I kept the scarf on for some time at the office, just to buy time. The scarf was black and tied neatly. I always do this when at work, just in case for some reason I forget to remove my satin scarf. It has to look like you wore the scarf on purpose. No one should know that you forgot to take it off. <please read that again for emphasis>

I went to the ladies and took down the flat twists and bantu knots. I used two hair pins, one on the side and one at the back to secure the hair. My only regret is that I should not have slept with the flat twist. For some reason it is not as neat as the Tuesday style. I was worried about ensuring the end was properly curled, but I could have hidden the bantu knot under the hair to give it time to set. Anyway, better luck next time.

Friday - Retro Flat Twist 'n' Curl

Friday – Retro Flat Twist ‘n’ Curl

I have done this style a number of times. The first time it was amazingly fluffy and wavy (not too curly) and because of length had loads of volume. It also didn’t fully dry, so during the day this caused the style to grow and grow = Awesomeness!!! This time it was very curly and for some reason the curls didn’t ‘fall’ during the day they way they usually do. The curls have held in basically the same position as morning. I only used Mongongo Oil and Shea Butter, so I think its because the hair has much less product than it would normally have when doing a twist out. Also, due to my hair cut, the hair has less volume and weight.
