Natural Spotlight: Tanya Wright

Zedhair asked the very lovely Tanya Wright of  True Blood…

Why natural? What made you embark on your journey?

I’m wearing my hair totally au-naturel these days because it’s kind of in keeping with the way I live my life–simple, natural, close to the earth. I’m a vegetarian who occasionally eats fish. Happiest with animals (Especially dogs!  I have a great black Labrador named Macarena who I love dearly) and quiet. I’m pretty much a minimalist–I’ve been living in my apartment for a year with just a bed, table and chair!  I travel so much, I just recently got furniture–it just wasn’t a priority. I try to drink a lot of water and eat really well and frying my hair just didn’t seem like it fit with all the other stuff. I dunno. Everybody makes their own decisions about their own lives. This was right for me.

How do you think Hollywood will handle your hair?

Hollywood is handling me and my hair just fine. In fact, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked into a room and folks ask me “why haven’t you always worn your hair like that?” I guess you just follow the herd until–well, you don’t. You decide to walk the path–your path– and it might not look like everybody else’s, but you know it’s the only one for you.

Advice about going natural?

My advice for anyone going natural is to DO YOU!  Whether you are a 3c, 4b and/or anything in between, ROCK IT!  Confidence is key and affects every other part of your life. It’s also really, really beautiful.
