Born in Lusaka, Zambia, or LSK to the Lusaka faithful, Rungano Nyoni is an actress and director making waves in the industry. Her website lists her as a BAFTA Cymru Award winning director.
Rungano Nyoni, won an award at the Film Africa Awards in London a few days ago for her short film, Mwansa The Great — It tells the story of an eight-year-old boy who aspires to be a hero and embarks upon a journey to prove his greatness – with unexpected consequences. In the video below, Rungano rocks a pretty sweet TWA and talks about the inspiration for Mwansa the Great (Rungano also looks fabulous in braids). This week’s hairspiration is: Rungano Nyoni.
I could not for the life of me find a trailer for Mwansa the Great in English (subtitles or otherwise). So, this one is for my Zambian and semi-Zambians who speak or at least understand ichiBemba (Bemba) pang’ono pang’ono. I also can not spell in Bemba– Sorry Mr. Lungu, two years of Bemba lessons in Mkushi and I am still rubbish!
